PRE-SUMMIT PROGRAMMING

 

Thursday, October 4

     
  8 a.m. Departure by bus from the Quebec City Convention Centre for Sherbrooke (one bus will make the tour in English and another in Spanish)
     
  10:30 a.m. Arrival in Sherbrooke or Magog
     
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire de l’Estrie, the only cooperative in Canada with its own cemetery. Tour of the crematorium. Presentation of its eco-cemetery project.
   
  • Presentation of the sustainable development program of the Quebec funeral cooperatives network.
   
  • Visit to the Université de Sherbrooke and presentation of the graduate training program of the Institut de recherche et d’éducation des coopératives et mutuelles de l’Université de Sherbrooke (IRECUS).
   
  • Tour of two student cooperatives. One of the first student cooperatives to own a cafeteria service, and another that offers bookstore, stationery and computer equipment services.
   
  • Visit to Magog Caskets. This company, a partner of the Federation of Funeral Cooperatives of Québec, is the only manufacturer of steel caskets in Canada. It exports part of its production to the United States and serves all the provinces of Canada.
    Lunch is offered by IRECUS, the Coopérative funéraire de l’Estrie and Café CAUS.
     
  5 p.m. Return to Quebec City
     
  7:30 p.m. Arrival in Quebec City
     

Friday, October 5

     
  8 a.m. Departure by bus from the Quebec City Convention Centre for Drummondville and St-Hyacinthe (one bus will make the tour in English and another in Spanish)
     
  9:30 a.m. Arrival in Drummondville or St-Hyacinthe
     
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire J.N. Donais in Drummondville. A successful conversion of a private funeral company to a cooperative, and the first funeral company in Quebec to secure a permit to serve liquor after funeral services. Visit to the chapel. Crematorium.
   
  • Presentation of the Quebec cooperative movement. Discover cooperatives and mutual enterprises in the agricultural, savings and credit, housing, insurance, food, forestry, ambulance and other sectors.
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire Maska in St-Hyacinthe. Relocated in August 2012 at a cost of $2 million. Hundreds of thousands of dollars contributed directly by the members. Most recent renovation project in the funeral cooperatives network.
   
  • Tour of the COMAX agricultural cooperative. Owned by over 1100 members, COMAX is today one of the three biggest farm input supply cooperatives in Quebec, and one of the 25 largest agricultural cooperatives in Canada. Involved in a multitude of sectors, the COMAX co-op employs 200 workers and boasts sales of close to $200 million.
    Lunch is offered by the Coopérative funéraire J.N. Donais and the Coopérative funéraire Maska.
     
  4:30 p.m. Return to Quebec City
     
  6 p.m. Arrival in Quebec City
     

Saturday, October 6

     
  8 a.m. Departure by bus from the Quebec City Convention Centre for Saguenay (one bus will make the tour in English and another in Spanish)
     
  10:30 a.m. Arrival in Saguenay
     
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire de Chicoutimi and the Cimetière St-François-Xavier, the only garden cemetery in the region. Visit to the mausoleum. The Coopérative funéraire de Chicoutimi has developed an original cooperation model which includes cemetery management.
   
  • Presentation of the La Symphonie training program developed by the Federation of Funeral Cooperatives of Québec. One of the aims of this program, designed for cooperative employees, is to incorporate cooperative values in the delivery of funeral services.
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire du Saguenay. The largest funeral complex in the Canadian funeral cooperatives network.
   
  • Tour of the Coopérative funéraire du Fjord. Featuring a church which has been converted to a funeral cooperative. Splendid views of the majestic Saguenay River fjord.
    Lunch offered by the Coopérative funéraire du Saguenay and the Coopérative funéraire de Chicoutimi.
     
  4:30 p.m. Return to Quebec City.
     
  6 p.m. Arrival in Quebec City.
