Follow-up to the Meeting


The First International Meeting of Funeral Cooperatives and Mutuals was held from October 4 to 8 2012, in Quebec City, Canada.

For the first time, co-operatives, mutual societies and democratic organizations working in the funeral industry from around the world met. More than 85 representatives from thirty organizations from seven countries had anj opportunity to discuss common issues and challenges facing them.

This historic event was organized by the Federation of Funeral Cooperatives of Quebec, which includes 23 funeral cooperatives in Quebec and a dozen others across Canada, the United States and Peru, as auxiliary members.

The First International Meeting of Funeral Cooperatives and Mutuals took place over five days. The 85 participants partook in multiple visits, conferences, panels and plenary discussions, all led and facilitated by experts in the field.

A major academic study on funeral cooperatives worldwide was unveiled at the meeting and a declaration of intent was adopted and signed.
